William Crockett & Mary Barber information per Grace Meader from Early Families of Alexander achs # 64, 65 & 66. John Barber was a Loyalist. References in "Loyalists to Canada" by Ted Holmes. Page 155 St. Andrews Grantees: John Barber. Page 160 St. Andrews grantees were also grantees of the Port Matoon/Mouton Association (now St. Stephen NB): John Barber. Page 162/3: He was a grantee of St. Andrews and a grantee with the Port Matoon/Mouton Association. He was a Mariner and served in Captain Nehemiah Marks' Company of Armed Boatmen. He was a member of the crew of the dispatch boat "Miranda," used by Captain Marks in claiming lands. John Barber settled along the "Old Ridge Road" near Morristown (St. Stephen NB). His name is recorded in a 1790-1 account book for the Porter family store at Ferry's Point (Calais ME).

A-CHS William D. Crockett was one of the earliest settlers of Alexander. He came by way of Calais to Township #16 in 1811 and settled on lot #92. Not too long after his arrival he became involved in the War of 1812, a member of Col Sheads forces at Eastport ME. Mary Barber was the daughter of John and Mary Barber the "Loyalist." When Mary was small, the family removed to Oak Bay, NB. William transferred the "Homestead" to his only son William Harrison. William H. sold the property to William and Lucy Davis in 1856; the lot was later owned by Carleton E. Davis descended from Edmund, Jacob, Rebecca Chatman Crockett Davis, William D. Crockett. William D. lived with Sylvanus H. and Cordelia Crockett Seavey following the death of his wife on 7/8/1855.

A-CHS Newsletter 5/01: William D. Crockett, age 80, is listed in the 1860 census of Alexander as living in the home of his grandson, William Valentine Davis. Also in the household were Davis's wife Lucy (Bird), their two children William H. age 4, and Frances age 8/12, and Matilda Bird, sister of Lucy. Readers will remember that after Lucy died William eventually ended up married to Matilda and there were in Danforth in 1900.

A-CHS Newsletter11/01. Cordelia Seavey and children were paupers from November 1858 through November 1861. Deborah Rand's The Seavey Family relates that Sylvanus Henry Seavey was the eighth of 13 children born to Edward and Sarah (Averill) Seavey. He married Cordelia Crockett and they had five children. Delia (1846) and Cordelia (1848) were the two eldest. Sylvanus died on August 20, 1855. In 1850 the family was living with Cordelia's parents, William and Mary Crockett. Is Sylvanus buried at the Crockett/Davis Cemetery on lot 92 in Alexander? /P/ Cordelia and her children boarded in the homes of Benjamin Strout, Robert K. Thistlewood, Isaiah Bailey, William Spearin, Aaron Averill of Alexander, and Daniel F. Wormwood of Crawford. "She left with children for Machias" on June 10, 1861, and "returned with one child" on June 28. She and her children do not appear on either Crawford or Alexander census in 1860. Where did this family go and how were they maintained? More unanswered questions. /P/ Apparently Cordelia and her children were the responsibility of Alexander because Sylvanus had established "settlement" here before his death in 1855.

Washington - Maine Place Names & the Peopling of Its Towns: The town of Alexander was settled about 1810. Collidge & Mansfield, in their History of New England, name the following as among the first settlers: Solomon Perkins, Caleb Pike, George Hill, A. Bohanan, Wm. D. Crockett, Paul Morse, Cyrus Young, Samuel Cottel. They came principally from MA & NH.

Sewall Crocket of Machias married Mariah Wilcox of Machias 6/8/1863. Pearl Crockett of Charlotte married Mary F. McAlpine 8/16/1846.
