Pg 237: John Folsom, in deed to dau Mary called himself "Folsham alias Smith." In 1673 he deeded to s. Peter land in Hingham, co. Norfolk (old Eng) near Norrald Common, formerly called Fulsham. Ab 1530 one Wm. Foulsham of Necton m one Agnes Smith of Besthorp, both Norf and had s Adam. In Carleton-Rode, co. Norfolk, John Smith alias Foulsham m. Alice Newnham 10/29/1616. One Peter Fowlesham alias Smith had son Adam bp. at Hingham 12/2/1623. Our John Folsom, of two Hinghams and Exeter, mar. Mary Gilman (John Fowlesham alias Smith and Maria G.) 10/4/1636 at Hingham, and in 1638 came over with the Gilmans. Rep. from Hingham 1654. He sold out there and came to Exeter in 1659. He was fined at Hingham in 1645 for critic. the Dep. Gov. and on appeal the General Ct. stood only 15 to 14 against him. See Corbett. Jury 8 yrs. 1662-1678, gr.j. 1675, 1676, selectman 1660, 1668. Gen Reg of 1st Settlers of NE pg 109: FOLSOM, ADAM, Hingham, came over in 1639. Lincoln, Hist. Hingham, 45. JOHN, Hingham 1638. Ibid. and Savage, ii. Winth. N.E. 234, where the name is spelled Foulshame, its ancient orthography. The Folsoms of New-Hampshire are said to be descendants of the above.

Pioneers of ME and NH: FULSHAM, FOULSHAM, FOLSAM, FOULCHER, John, planter, with wife and 2 servants, came from old Hingham in 1638, and settled at Hignham MA. Proprietor, town officer; had liberty to erect a sawmill. Sold property in 1659 and rem. to Exeter. He m Mary dau of Edward Gilman (who also came to Hingham and afterward rem to Exeter.) Ch.: John, Samuel bapt 10/11/1641, Nathaniel bapt 6/2/1644, Israel bapt 9/1644, Peter bapt 4/8/1649, Mary bapt 4/13/1651 (m George Marsh), Ephraim bapt 2/25/1654-5. He deeded to his son Peter 4/10/1673 land and houses "in ye towne of Hingam in ye county of Norff: near Norvald comon & formerly cald by ye name of ffulsham at ye Box bushes .... which lately fell to mee." He d 12/27/1681.

John; Samuel bapt 10/11/1641; Nathaniel bapt 6/2/1644; Israel bapt. 9/1644; Peter bapt 4/8/1649; Mary bapt. 4/13/1651 (m. George Marsh); Ephraim bapt 2/25/1654-5. /P/ He d. 12/27/1681.
