The New England historical and genealogical register, Volume 51MATTHEW ALLEN the émigrant who settled in Windsor Conn married as above 2 Feb 1626 Margaret Wyot daughter of John Wytt, [see JL Vivian's Visitation of the County of Devon page 823] baptized at Braunton 27 Nov 1558 admitted to the Inner Temple 1570 married Frances, daughter of Amyas Chichester of Arlington. Margaret Allen's sisters were Joane and Agnes and a brother Philip who are all mentioned in will of Bartholomew Chichester.[See REGISTER Vol 50 p 504] Amyas Chichester died 4 July 1577. He was son of Sir John Chichester of Raleigh married about 1534 joan, daughter of Sir Roger Gifford of Brightley, and had children Henry, John, Richard, Hugh, Robert, Gifford, Severus, Philip, Edward, Sylvester, Paul, Bartholomew, Gregory, Francis, Margaret, Elizabeth, Honor, Fanny or Frances. The twelfth child Bartholomew's will is above referred to, He married Katherine Andrews widow and daughter of Richard Avery of Barnstaple Eng. WALTER K W ATKINS

RICHARD ALLEN the elder of Brauton in Devon 29 November 1647 proved 10 May 1652/ To my son Thomas Allinge five pounds To my son Mathew Allinge five pounds. To Mary Allinge daughter of son Thomas twenty shillings. I give and bequeath unto my son Mathew's three children to John the sum of twenty shillings, to Thomas his son twenty shillings, and to Mary his daughter twenty shillings. To my grandchild Mary Tamling five pounds, to my grandchild Elianor Tamling four pounds, to my yrandchild Obedience Garland twenty shillings and to my grandchild Elizabeth Tamling twenty shillings. To my daughter in law Elizabeth wife of my son Richard twenty shillings in gold to buy her a ring. To my grandchild John Ailing son of my son Richard three pounds. To my grandchild Margaret daughter of my son Richard three pounds. To John Rice of Barnstaple twenty shillings. To the poor of Branton three pounds to be distributed to their houses within ten days after my decease. To Walter Cutt five shillings. To every servant in my house at the time of my death two shillings sixpence apiece. Son Richard Ailing to be executor and residuary legatee. Bowyer, 108.
