Crockett/Davis home near Sears' Corner: "It is west of Pleasant Lake, and when the land was cleared, the view of the lake and Breakneck Mountain must have been special. William Crockett cleared the land and built the first (and perhaps the only) house on this farm. Today much of the land has grown up to bushes and saplings. Under an old maple tree, an old fence outlines a cemetery. There is at least one grave depression plus one stone. The stone reads 'Lucy E. d 1863 Wife of William Davis.' ...Were William and Mary Crockett buried under the maple tree?" A-CHS Newsletter 11/98 |
