Joseph
J. Heston, 64, of Laflin, died Tuesday at home.
He was
born on Aug. 19, 1939, son of the late Joseph A. Heston and Ida Vitale
Heston. He was a 1957 graduate of Wyoming High School. He received his
bachelor's degree from Drexel University in 1963, where he was a member
of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He received his Juris Doctor from
Temple University Law School in 1968. Mr. Heston volunteered his
services as a lawyer to the Small Business Administration to assist in
disaster relief following Hurricane Agnes in 1972 and later served as
deputy clerk to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of
Pennsylvania. He was also clerk of the United States Bankruptcy Court
for the Northern District of Texas. He was associated with several
prominent law firms in the area and at the time of his retirement was
counsel to the firm of Dougherty, Leventhal & Price, L.L.P., and law
clerk to Judge Hugh F. Mundy, Court of Common Pleas of Luzerne County.
He was a member of the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar
Association, and Wilkes-Barre Law & Library Association. He was a member
of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.
Surviving are sisters, Mary Alice Mazzarella, Exeter; JoAnn DeRose,
York; Lois Fastiggi, Mechanicsburg; nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be held Friday at 10 from Adonizio Funeral Home, Inc., 251 William
St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in St. John the
Evangelist Church. Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery,
Carverton. Friends may call Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
